Vigil for Chibok Nigerian Abducted Girls in Abuja

The #BringBackOurGirls night vigil  for the over 200 missing Chibok schoolgirls held in Abuja last Wednesday to mark their 30th day in captivity by Boko Haram. Almost 300 people drawn from all walks of life and affiliations including daily participants at the rallies were in attendance. The event held inside the  Thisday Dome and even though I couldn't attend, see pictures from the well planned and prayer-filled event.

Nigeria in Focus: 10 Things That Make Me Wonder Why-Anichebe

1. #iWonderWhy you just can't be who you want to be? What if you just want to be a PC bum? Why can't you just be? A writer of a blog. An internet marketer? A eBay guru? But a bum all the same. Write books at home, drinking green tea and meditating — no . No one asking you about the contents of the tea and the chemical components of the leaves. Why can't they just let you be? Be who you want to be. Live how you want to live. Live with passion! Make your life a blockbuster. #iWonderWhy 2. #iWonderWhy Goodluck Jonathan hasn't resigned. Or any of his ministers in spite of all the nonsense crimes they commit daily as published brazenly on the pages of newspapers. Yes I wonder- "Why there hasn't been a revolution yet?" Is this not enough? Is this not enough to make you just pull your hair out, scream and shout and let it all out? #iWonderWhy As an afterthought, I don't wonder anymore on why there is no Revolution. Nigerians aren't docile. We're jus…

Kidnapped Chibok Schoolgirls Will Soon Be Freed Says Committee - NAN

The Presidential Fact-Finding Committee on the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls has expressed hope that the missing students will soon be found and re-united with their families.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the committee, Mr Kingsley Osadolor, on Wednesday after closed door meetings between the committee and some heads of security agencies.

The statement said the committee met separately with the Minister of Defence, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Inspector-General of Police.

It said the defence minister, retired Lt.-Gen. Aliyu Gusau, described as unfortunate the mass kidnap of the schoolgirls and decried the advent of Boko Haram.

"The minister, however, pledged the support of the ministry to the realisation of the committee's objectives.

"He also made useful suggestions, for which the committee chairman expressed gratitude,'' the statement said.

It said the chairman of the committee, retired…

Africa minister Simmonds, in Nigeria for talks about the international rescue mission, said he raised the issue with Jonathan during a meeting in Abuja.

DAME PATIENCE JONATHAN: THE CONTENT AND THE CONTAINER

Someone shared this and I thought it made great sense!

The Good side of Patience Jonathan we never talk about:

She possesses traits of The Best Kind Of Wife Any Man Can Pray for Despite Her Grammatical Expression!!!

When I see the way people ridicule Patience Jonathan, the First Lady Of Nigeria, I only pity the future of most of our youths especially Men.

Many have been repeating her expressions recently like:

"There is God ooo!!"
"Na only you Waka Come"!!
"All the Blood we are Sharing"!!!

Interestingly, that is

*The Woman who stood by GEJ when he was living with all his brothers in a one room apartment.

*That is the woman who took GEJ to her Uncle in Zoology Dept. of Uniport in order to help him secure admission which he did.

*That is the Woman that stood by GEJ when he had no food to eat and would bring Food stuffs for
him in school every weekend.

*That is the Woman who used her money from her business to help GEJ to pay for handouts and textbooks when…

BringBackOurGirls: One Month Gone - Ayodele

Today makes it exactly one month they have been under captivity. Possibly being forced to do unimaginable things against their will.

Forcefully converted from their religion to other religion. They are all girls of tender age being exposed to hardship far beyond what they could comprehend.

They have been away from the tender care of their parents/guardians. You can only guess what emotional trauma their parents will be passing through right now.

You can only guess what pain the terrorist would have inflicted into their hearts.

No finger pointing but let the truth be told. A government that can't guarantee the protection of it's most vulnerable citizen has undoubtedly failed from it's basic responsibility.

For how long more are our girls going to be in the cold forest with no assurance of rescue anytime soon?. For how long will our government pretend to be in control of the situation?

Don't you think this case would have been swept under the carpet if @obyezeks didn…

Nigerian Politicians Need to Learn the Jose Mujica's Example

Jose Mujica is often referred to as the world's "poorest" president.

"I'm not a poor president," he told CNN's Christiane Amanpour through an interpreter on Monday. "Poor are the people who need a lot – Seneca said that. I am an austere president."

He donates 97% of his salary, drives a 1987 Volkwagen Beetle – the original "peoples' car" – and sells flowers with his wife at their home.

This president truly inspires me and I wish my countrymen-politicians will have his ideology too

World Economic Forum on Africa: Take Aways - Fashola

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola shares his thoughts on the World Economic Forum (WEF). As we expect life in Abuja to return to normal, hopefully for the better, I feel the urge to share my thoughts about the World Economic Forum.
Although security concerns and discussions were constant mentions at a Forum to discuss Africa's economy hosted in Africa's largest market (by population), that may as well not be a very bad thing when all is finally said and done. This is because I find it difficult to imagine that any kind of serious economic activity can be sustained in an atmosphere of insecurity. So the focus on security may well turn out to be a blessing in disguise because I have always believed that the difficult times bring on an opportunity if those who experience it look for lessons to be learned so that the difficult times never repeat themselves. That said, I will return to my WEF takeaways and they are simple things that have far-reaching consequences for us, depending…
